CONTENT DESIGNS

My vision is to create learning experiences and environments that empower students to reach their full capacity. My goal is to enrich content designs so that they enable students to develop valuable skill sets that are aligned with modern age circumstances. Here are samples of my designed content resources. 'Escape the Room' Activity

Conservation Education

This activity adds an educational twist to the escape room games. This is a great way to implement a multidisciplinary approach to teaching and enhance students' 21st-century skills. Students learn to collaborate to solve scientific puzzles, decipher words, and analyze mathematical problems. These activities can use effective storytelling which allows students to build real-life connections. This sample's intended audience is grades 6-8 with the objective of preserving biodiversity.

Gamification Based Assessment

Act it Out: Reaction Charades

Formative assessment can guide instruction to enhance student learning. However, assessments do not always need to be a ten-minute pop quiz. They can be transformed so that the experience is engaging and fun rather than stressful. This will allow for creative ways to gather feedback and adjust instruction to close any learning gaps. This sample is mapped to Next Generation Science Standard (NGSS): MS-PS1-5 Matter and its Interactions.

Metacognitive Prompt

Animal Flashcards

Metacognitive prompts allow students to develop their skills of planning, organizing, mapping, and building connections with their learning. These prompts consist of graphic organizers such as KWL charts, sequence diagrams, or mind maps. They allow students to organize and visualize heavy new information in ways that they can better understand.  If these prompts are continuously integrated into lessons, teachers can gather multiple data points before, during, and after the learning process.

Distance Learning Mini-Lessons

What's in an Atom?

Learning online has become an essential component in modern education. Content needs to be re-designed to utilize the affordances of the web and technology tools so that students can take ownership of their learning. By creating mini learning objectives students can process information without feeling overwhelmed. In parallel, teachers can receive real-time data and adjust instruction to cater to students' individual needs. This sample is mapped to NGSS: MS-PS1-1 Matter and its Interactions.

STEAM Lesson Plan

Building Blocks of Life

When subjects are taught in isolation, students learn concepts based on chapters and page numbers. On the other hand, a multidisciplinary approach allows students to make sense of the content in relevant and authentic contexts. STEAM lessons allow students to inquire about topics and collaborate to solve problems. They are encouraged to be creative and to learn by applying and transferring their skills to new challenges. This sample is mapped to NGSS: MS-LS1-2 From Molecules to Organisms.

Gamification Tool

Badgedex

When combining elements of gamification with academic content, students can become motivated to actively learn. I believe that incorporating rules of play, such as a star/badge system, can reduce students' fear of grades and shift their mindset to keep trying. These tools can also allow students to make connections and reflect on their learning. This sample is aligned with the four disciplines of the NGSS.
